Senior Volunteers
Senior citizens contribute their helping hands in the Hamburg Central School District as volunteers in the schools.
That involvement in school life has benefits all the way around. It means an extra set of hands in the classroom for teachers, and individual and small group attention for students. For the senior volunteers, there's the satisfaction of guiding and interacting with children.
Hamburg has about 37 senior volunteers. They assist in the elementary schools one morning per week. They help with a variety of non-teaching activities, which might include anything from arranging a bulletin board display to correcting papers.
To keep the program going strong, the district encourages new volunteers to join. For more information, contact Mary King, senior volunteer coordinator, at 649-7523.
